thought: Being intense

I can be a fairly intense person, I came to realise recently. This has some down sides. However, Andy says that he reckons King David, and Paul were both intense people too, so at least I'm in good company.

Let's hear it for being wildly, unnervingly passionate! (and hope that we can learn when not to be, too).

Yes, I'm not entirely sure what I've unleashed here. Up to the point at which I no longer understand what each of you are saying, 'hurrah!' I agree!

One thought that I do have about intensity is that it has to be appropriately placed. Sometimes people (myself included) can express very strongly emotions that, while they genuinely THINK they feel, in actual fact, it's more of a passing stage.

In one sense I guess this kind of intensity comes from security - the ability to wear one's heart on one's sleeve must be a function of being comfortable with one's emotions, so it's a good thing in that sense. I think that for some, less 'intense' people, it can make them feel uncomfortable though. MAYBE it's because, for them expressing emotion is a really big thing. So, if I tell an 'intense' person that I love them, they think 'that's cool, Keating really likes me and thinks I'm a good person.' However, if I tell a 'non-intense' person 'I love you,' they think 'whoah! that's really big - Keating really wants a deep commitment with me, I'm scared by that kind of emotion'.

Thoughts?
